Not that I have any possibility of either. :-) Seriously, what do you think happened to Whitney? She obviously was raised in a church and in a home that taught her the gospel. No one really knows for sure who has trusted Christ as their Savior but I honestly think she did. Why didn't Whitney understand that Jesus was enough?

Last Sunday as I was worshiping God at my church, it was as if the words of the songs were jumping off the screen. As I listen week after week to horrifying stories of abuse and heartache, and as I continually work through some of my own hurts, I hear some of the same questions over and over. How can God forgive people that commit horrible crimes that wound and damage His children beyond recognition?

We would be amazed if our minds could be laid open and we could see how many lies are in our brains that hold us back from so many things. Lies can feel so real and true! In reading Romans 7:10 I discovered something Paul taught me, “I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.” There was absolutely nothing wrong with my quiet time or my decision to give a portion of my money to the church or a ministry. But something that should bring life to me was bringing death. Why? Because I had made it a law! At that time in my life I had a distorted view of the principles in God’s word. I really did believe it was up to me to grow. Now I understand who I am in Christ and that God has written His laws on my heart. I understand that now as I live under grace I do because I want to, not because I should or have to.

I grew up in a home where I heard often, “Young lady, what will the neighbors think?” Another saying I heard often was, “Birds of a feather flock together.” Now the people saying those things did not mean harm but boy oh boy did it affect me! As we teach on grace and identity, I often will ask my counselee where they got their false identity from.

I was channel surfing yesterday and came across a political talk show and heard a statement that jumped out at me. Katty Kay from BBC made this statement: "In politics emotions win over facts." Wow, that is not only true in politics but in many areas of our lives. This pannel was discussing that if a politican can connect to our emotions, it does not matter what their record states.

I feel like I am just “setting the record straight” that there can be no influence of this choice in my life or my ongoing family line. I had an exaggerated fear of the doctor and the dentist, so I wouldn’t even consider braces. My father used his tactic of humor to try to make me consider going to an orthodontist. His jokes about my teeth hurt me deeply. Remember that your real enemy is Satan, who sets people up to give you messages to confirm lies that he has already placed in your heart.

So that means it's great when I feel positive happy emotions deeply but not so great when I feel the depths of sadness. My emotions have balanced out more in my older years but when I was young I knew if I had an extreme high then the horrible low was right on it's heals. In my case, I believe it was partially physical and partially from the deep wounds in my heart.

As we all try to "make life work" we soon find that our efforts are unfruitful. Why would God allow us to put so much effort into trying to do the right thing and then discover disappointment. Guess what book I read? "When Good Men Are Tempted" by Bill Perkins. Did you know that men's struggle with lust is so closely related to a woman's struggle with food that it's fascinating? - [Over Indulgence](https://royallifeministries.org/2013/06/indulgence/) - Where did we learn that if one thing is good then two would be better? Kids today are learning it from the AT&T commercial on t.v. right now that drives me crazy? A man is sitting at a kid's table asking them if more is better. The kids are saying, "Yes, you always want more, more, more!" If one cookie is good, two would be scrumptious. If you find a pair of shoes that you love, get one in every color. If one glass of wine is enjoyable, why not have two or three? This way of thinking can get us all in a lot of trouble.

So many people that come to our ministry are dealing with some sort of anger. Stuffed hurts build up over the years and come popping up at the most inopportune times. As I rethink that statement, I think I would say it differently. Human beings are the best recorders but the worse interpreters. A brand new condition has come about and the old condition of being "In Adam" and left to our own resources to live life has died. Guilt says, “I did something wrong.” Shame says, “There IS something wrong with me.” I knew I wasn’t “like” the other people. If a small child would ask me why my teeth stuck out I’d want to die with embarrassment. I often talked to people with my hand in front of my mouth. Kids, of course, teased me. I also grew up with an extreme fear of EVERYTHING. It did not help matters any when I experienced a traumatic visit with a community health department dentist at a very young age.

How do you think you try to control your own environment? One of my major flesh patterns is to put up a wall of self protection. The problem with self protection is that when I keep other's out, I keep myself imprisoned inside. That's not freedom and Christ said he came to set us free. Honestly think about it. Can you really control whether or not someone hurts you? Control is an illusion and control is fueled by fear.

Do you notice anything wrong with this card? Look closely. Do you see it yet? WE ARE NOT THE SMITH FAMILY! The Smith Family was on the Walmart Web site for that particular card. It wasn't clear where to change the name. After numerous attempts to order this card because of a computer that kept freezing up; I quickly hit send once it actually worked. It hit me thirty minutes later that I did not recall putting our name on the card. Now I find this rather funny! (I wouldn't be laughing if Walmart had not made it right for me.) It's amusing that our ministry teaches people their identity and then we send out a card with the wrong name on it! But it actually inspired me to write a blog.

I'm a very relational person and I love spending time with my friends. But I can't I've been very "friendly" when it comes to my relationship with my body. And sad to say, I'm finding that this is the case with more women than I care to mention.

I mean come on, people! The devil seems pretty busy with ISIS and world wars and kidnappings! Well, I have to admit; I'm one of those people. In our counseling ministry we talk to our clients about personal responsibility. When God begins to open our eyes to our wounds and flesh patterns; we encourage them to not get into the BED. My brilliant husband came up with name of this coping mechanism. BED stands for blame, excuse or deny. We encourage people to instead, own their "stuff." So I am aware that people like me who can have a flesh pattern of over spiritualizing things can sometimes be annoying. However, on the other hand, I have seen my share of spiritual warfare and I absolutely know it is real!

If we love ourselves, we will take care of ourselves. But it is never that straight forward. (Not sure that is a blessing! Maybe ignorance IS bliss.)

The book also list quality time, physical touch, gifts, and acts of service as languages that demonstrate love. We all have a love language. The focus of the book is to teach us to identify our love language AND identify your family and friends love language. We have to learn to love people in their love language. If we love them in our language, it will not be meaningful. I'm learning a lot these days about words of affirmation.

Adam was even allowed to participate with God in the growing of fruits and vegetables. As Adam toiled the fields he probably felt a lot of fulfillment. A problem always arises when human beings take what is good and try to make it better in their own strength and intellect. Isn't that how the story in the garden went south? "Did God really say? Oh, He just doesn't want you to be as good as Him but you can be a god too!" Thus started the mantra, "I did it my way!" But our way didn't work.We did not get what the evil one promised. We made things worse.
