Years ago, I wrote a blog talking about shifting sand. At that time, I was frustrated around the topic of dieting. When it came to eating healthy, the headlines seemed to change every day. One day you could eat something and it was fine, and then the next day it was not fine. Fast forward a few short years and it appears you can’t trust anything we are told. I’ve watched the lost art of honesty leave this world at a rapid pace. Now that AI has arrived, we will rarely know if what we are seeing is legitimate. This is why I hold on to Jesus tighter than ever. I like stability! Truth is so very important to me. Because I value safety and accuracy. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6). Complete truth is in His DNA.
In Hebrews 6:18 and 19 the author tells us that it is impossible for God to lie. And those who rush to take hold of this hope may be greatly encouraged. Verse 19 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…. What hope? The hope that God is trustworthy!
The word “hope” used in these scriptures do not mean wishful thinking. It is a confident expectation based on God’s unchanging nature and His faithfulness that we see all throughout the scriptures. This verse is encouraging us to hold firmly to God and the truth we can trust.
I love the anchor analogy that was used in this verse. An anchor will not drag or fail; it holds no matter how fierce the waves. It keeps us steady and secure. No matter what our culture teaches us, honesty is not overrated.
Here are some scriptures about truth:
John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 15:26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father – the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father- he will testify of me.”
John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.”
I Corinthians 13:6 “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”
Ephesians 1:13 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.”
Just reading these verses manifest safety and peace in my soul. I do not want to live in uncertainty and anxiety. I am secure and in the hands of the creator of the Universe who knows the beginning from the end. Nothing takes Him by surprise, and He lives in me. I thought I was finished with this blog until I listened to my friend on a podcast this afternoon. She brought up two wonderful verses. II Peter 1: 12-13 says, “So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now live. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body.” Paul was reminding the church to keep renewing their minds with these wonderful truths. If we don’t, we will find discouragement. We are human; therefore, we are easily distracted, and we sometimes forget. As I have shared many times, our emotions follow our thoughts. If I am feeling insecure, unsafe or anxious I have forgotten the truth of who God is and who I am in Him.
As I looked through the scriptures today, I realized our current culture is really no different than many throughout history. People were often caught up in dishonesty and deception, however, the scriptures consistently beckons us back to living in truth and grace. Why? Because Jesus is full of grace and truth and He lives inside us and we live in Him. Therefore, our true identity is truthtellers and grace givers. We are like our Heavenly Father. It’s in our DNA.
